Vision From the Tower of Hope

the other night i went trespassing

on the grounds of the ruling class and

i climbed up the tower of hope

there behind all the contraptions

of red elephants and blue asses

i looked into the future’s telescope

i saw the guilty politicians

bound in chains and locked in prison

I saw the capitol alive with hope and change

I saw the forces of the governing

applied to combat poverty

and healthcare with no exploitative gain

I saw playgrounds filled with children

without hate or fear based on skin

where the content of their character is king

I saw black men walking proud and tall

from Birmingham to Baltimore

I saw policemen speak with calmness and respect

I saw the empty ammunition bins

That someone planted flowers in

And rifles melted down to make new tools

I saw the gardens yielding bountifully

in the ruins of the factories

I saw faithfulness and truth ride through it all

I saw my children and their children

in the world that they were building

embrace equality, forgiveness, love, and hope

I saw lambs and lions lying

atop the unmarked graves of tyrants

where donald trump was buried long ago

As if the Lord dwelt there among them

there was no fear or ignorance

and injustice withered like a fallen leaf

I saw men and women bravely

live with decency and dignity

I saw plenty, I saw progress, I saw peace
