Old Truck Blues
you fell in love when you first saw that truck
bought it, took it home, and tried to fix it up
I guess beauty’s in the eye of the beholder driving by the shoulder where the previous owner said enough
first change the battery, then the wires and plugs
new pads and rotors, ball joints, tires, and struts
you say it reminds you of the kind your grandpa’d drive back in the time he was alive and you were young
that ancient engine’s sounding pretty rough
and there’s half a dozen places with some serious rust
factor in the gas it takes to drive to work and back in this thing maybe this old truck ain’t worth the fuss
but could you find a buyer for this hunk of junk?
and get back even half of all the costs you’ve sunk?
so you decide to try to ride it out a little while until those tires have done some miles then give it up
by any standard that old thing was tough
but a busted rod, the engine’s blown, you’re out of luck
I guess beauty’s in the eye of the beholder standing by the shoulder miles past where you could’ve said enough
