Nothing Worth Having
Strong is the current and slow is the boat.
High is the castle and deep is the moat.
Long is the winter for one with no coat,
But it’s all just a matter of perspective.
Fast move the days when your life’s going fine.
Short are the hours with the love of your life.
Long are the minutes between 9 and 5
In this life of quiet desperation.
You are what you have that can’t be taken away.
You truly believe what you’re most scared to say.
Few things worth making are built in a day,
And nothing worth having is worth forcing to stay.
Still are the tongues that spoke comforting words,
Deafening the silence where they once were heard.
Dwindling down are your days on this earth:
It’s time you stopped waiting for something.
Gone are the days before you had to choose;
Many the stories and bad is the news.
Where now the nothings that you had to lose,
In this the hour of accounting?
You are what you have that can’t be taken away.
What’s true in the darkness may be true in the day.
Few things worth making are built in a day,
And nothing worth having is worth forcing to stay.
