Green Pennsylvania

I must’ve wandered to this hollow

with just my anger and a bottle

now I’m afraid tomorrow

will not come for me

because the icy hands of winter

are baring down on this September

soul, the fire’s turned to embers

and there’s no star I can see

I know that I’m the cause of all of my frustration

I know that I’m the one who stands in the way

but I know that there’s new life in the waiting

and Spring will come again

sure as the dead of winter screams for salvation

sure as the darkest night believes in the day

I will meet you in green pennsylvania

in the month of may

I’m broken and i’m battered

and my clothes are all in tatters

but the only thing that matters

is alive in me

beneath the ashes of despair

less than a thought or unsaid prayer

a flame of hope is waiting there

that death will die someday

I know that I’m the cause of all of my frustration

I know that I’m the one who stands in the way

but I know that there’s new life in the waiting

and Spring will come again

sure as the dead of winter screams for salvation

sure as the darkest night believes in the day

I will meet you in green pennsylvania

in the month of may
